Angkor Wat Bike Race for Kids

Soksabike sent three guides (Untac, Phearon, and Reaksmey) to compete in the Angkor Wat Bicycle Race and Ride for Kids in Siem Reap, Cambodia this year.  They all did great while representing Soksabike and Battambang in the race!

Untac competed in the 100km race like he did last year. He did lots of training over the last two months on his bike including a long trip of over 3000km from Battambang to Bangkok, all the way up to the north of Thailand, into Laos, and all the way down to Phnom Penh. He also did more training the two weeks before the race began with the rest of the Soksabike team. He placed 11th among 56 cyclists from 15 different countries. After the race he said “I love it so much when all the cyclist come together to join a ride to help raise money for kids, at the same time meeting a lot of cyclist from Cambodia and through out the world.”

Phearon and Reaksmey both competed in the 30km race. Phearon was competing in his third mountain bike race and finished in only 53 minutes and placed 30th overall out of over 200 competitors.  He said “During the bike race I couldn’t catch up with the first group so I went with the second group instead. All of the people in the second group came from different countries, different teams, and wear different jerseys but they really liked to help each other. I really liked them.” He’s planning to keep practicing and hopes to someday win the race!

Thanks to everyone who went to the race to show your support!
