Our Journey of Empowerment

Soksabike 2025

The Beginning (2010):

Soksabike was born in Battambang, Cambodia, in 2010. Our founders, deeply involved in local development projects, saw both the beauty of the region and the challenges faced by its young people. They noticed a gap between the education young Cambodians received and the skills needed for available jobs. This sparked a vision: to create a sustainable tourism business that would directly empower the local community.

Building the Foundation (2010-2018):

Driven by this vision, the founders collaborated with local youth to launch not just Soksabike, but also Kinyei Cafe, another social enterprise. The focus was on vocational training and creating meaningful employment. Soksabike chose bicycles as the perfect way to explore – environmentally friendly, allowing for a slower pace and a truly Cambodian mode of transport.

From the start, Soksabike was more than just a tour company. It was a social enterprise, committed to reinvesting profits back into the community. Our tours were designed to offer authentic experiences, connecting visitors with local families, artisans, and the daily rhythms of Cambodian life. We prioritized fair wages, ethical sourcing, and minimizing our environmental impact. Our young guides became cultural ambassadors, sharing their heritage and gaining valuable skills.

Empowering the Community:

Throughout these years, Soksabike focused on:

  • Providing vocational training in tourism, hospitality, English language, and business management.

  • Offering scholarships to support our guides' further education.

  • Partnering with other local organizations to address broader community needs.

  • Measuring and reporting our impact to ensure transparency and accountability.

A New Chapter: Local Ownership (2018 - Present):

A major milestone arrived in 2018. Soksabike transitioned to 100% local ownership, with long-time staff members, Kanha Sam and Phalla Chhoy, taking the lead. This fulfilled a core principle of Soksabike: to be truly community-driven. Kanha and Phalla, having grown with the company, were perfectly positioned to continue its mission.

Looking Forward:

Under local leadership, Soksabike remains dedicated to its founding values. We continue to provide training, create opportunities, and promote responsible tourism in Battambang. We adapt to the changing needs of the community and strive to be a preferred employer for local youth. Our journey continues, and we invite you to be a part of it. Every Soksabike tour is a step towards a more sustainable and empowered future for Battambang.
